Last night I hosted our ward's book club... on Stephenie Meyer's book 'Twilight'. Let's just say, it's a popular book. We had 22 ladies in my living room. Can you say COZY??(Thanks, though, Teresa, for the pics!)
We had great discussions on this book; however, it was difficult with that many girls to keep side conversations at a minimum. Cracked me up! Everyone loves these books and had so much to say.
Refreshments.
So... as many of you know, the vampires in these books don't eat real food. So to provide refreshments based on the book was a bit difficult and I had to get a bit creative. Here's what I came up with:
Candied apples representing the forbidden fruit AND the apple on the cover of the book. Yes, I hand made the concoction to hand dip the apples in. I only burned myself three times. :(
(Anyone figure out how to eat a candied apple?? Morgan's having a heck of a time figuring it out...)
Vampire bitten cupcakes.

See the fang marks?? Inside they were filled with "blood" (cherry pie filling) so when you bit into them, they bled!
Red punch with a frozen ice cube hand in it representing Bella's bitten hand.
Test tubes filled with "blood". (tomato juice)
Pitcher of "blood".
For those of you who attended book club, you'll appreciate this video.
My dear Morgan was taking our picture and FOOLED us by setting the camera to 'video mode'. Listen to her giggle. She thinks she's so funny!!
(remember to pause music before playing video)

25 VERY much appreciated comments:
I love parties....but especially Twilight-related ones! I think I did the laundry last night...pretty lame in comparison.
AGK!! I so wish I could have been there!!! It looks like you guys had a great time! :-)
I am so happy that I was able to go! I really needed a break. I absolutely loved hearing everyone's perspectives on the book and the different characters! You did a great job hosting, Rachel. You went above and beyond with your creative refreshments : ) It was a blast!
I think you should have at least invited Paula and I. Looks like fun and such cute refreshements!
I want to come to one of your book clubs! What a party!
Our ward did the same book for book club a couple of months ago, but your party was amazing! Good job Rachel! Even though I wasn't there the video cracked me up. Morgan's giggle was so funny:0)
OK Rachel...I found your blog from Julee's and have been peeking in now and again! Love your thoughts...your sweet personality shines through on your blog.
When I came across this post I couldn't help but comment because I am a big Twilight fan. So imagine my surprise when I found out part of the movie is being filmed in my little town! It's going on RIGHT NOW and our town is just abuzz with Edward, Bella and Jacob sitings! You will have to hit my blog and go to my friend's sites (Shannon B, Rochelle and Paige)for lots of pictures of the stars and the set. Fun stuff...from one Twilight fan to another!
You are so creative Rachel! You're amazing! Those refreshments must have blown everyone away! I'm glad you snapped pictures for your bloggin' buddies :)
Wow, thanks for the mention in your blog! Now I'm even more sorry that I left early. What a fun group photo! The refreshments were so creative. If Edward were there 1) you'd probably have lot of fainting women on your hands and 2) even he would have been tempted to partake of your the party food! Great job, Rachel!
Your so creative it makes me sick. How fun, what a good idea.
Wow those are awesome refreshments. Those books are a lot of fun. Glad you guys had such a good time with it.
Rachel thank you for hosting such an amazing book club. The food was outstanding. You did an over the top job with only 8 1/2 days left till you pop out that sweet baby. You are amazing, kiss kiss kiss, this is me kissing your feet. Love you!!!!
Well, I know nothing about the book, but the food looked fit for any spooky gathering! All that aside, I think the funniest thing on this post is Morgan's giggle as she thinks she's tricked all those mommies! How funny. She sounds so happy with her sneakiness!
Very creative refreshments. That is a HUGE book club. And I can't believe your WARD read Twilight; we had so many complaints in our ward book club about certain words, bishopric approval, etc. that a few of us just went underground.
You did an amazing job with the refreshments. I wish I was still in your ward so I could have come. I still have not read that book, but daughter loves, loves them. I will eventually read them.
looks like a blast! I haven't had time to read anything good in forever. I miss reading a good book. Gotta pick something up!
What a great party with fabulous refreshments!! Well done! Wish I lived closer so I could have invited myself :)
What a fun party! Thanks for your sweet comments Rachel, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I've been cyber-stalking your blog since we talked at the pizza place! :)
Looks like so much fun! You're very creative!!
Hi Rachel
So...I grew up going to the same stake as Julee and her family. I was around the same age as her brother James and your husband, Martin. I actually dated their friend, Shem, MANY years ago! Funny. Small world...especially the 'Mormon' world!
Fun to get to know you through the blogs. I'll be back to check in :)
Hi, I hopped over here from Jessica's blog. I LOVED the Twilight series too. What a fun, creative party you did. That is awesome! My friends and I are counting down the days until the next book in August and the movie in December.
First of all I'm so sad that I was not invited to your party...so sad. Second of all you are having a baby in like a couple days!!! And last we for sure still need to have a fun craft day...I love crafts. And I love you.
You ladies make me laugh...lol. That was quite a turn out. I think it is funny that Morgan has you all fooled. I would of done something like that..teheeh
great job! way to pull it off!
