Fun stuff

Lately I've been obsessed having fun with a few websites that I want to share... Join in on the fun!

Pinterest!
Oh the love. If you haven't heard of this site, you're in for a treat. It's a place where we can "bookmark" everything under the sun and have it all on one page. It's just amazing. I've used it so many times now for cooking, crafts, etc... Let me know if you need an invite to it. If you're already on it, follow me!

Swagbucks!
Then there's my swagbucks. I'm in love with this site as well. Swagbucks is a sorta kinda money  making site, I guess you could say. There are a ton of ways to earn "Swagbucks" and once you accumulate so many, you're able to redeem them in the SwagStore. My favorite thing to "buy" is their $5 Amazon gift card. I've done so well with this now I was able to purchase (with my accumulated Amazon gift cards!!) an iPod touch and all its extras!!! SCORE!! Join me on there, peoples. It's worth it!

CraftGawker!
I barely just discovered this site... but it's quickly becoming a fast fave. Crafts and projects galore!! I get ideas from here and then "pin" them to my Pinterest. It's a vicious cycle, I tell ya!

Those are just a few of my latest obsessions. I'm sure there are more lurking in the shadows.

Me + Ambien = Vewy Scawy

Oh my word.
I debated long and hard whether or not to put this out there for the world to see.
But because Carly and I can't stop laughing about it, and because I just HAVE to save it forever, here I go...

For all the world to see.

Let me back up a bit and tell a little story.
Friday morning a week ago or so, I had a mini breakdown. One of those "overwhelmed, gotta cry it out and want to throw my hands up in the air" breakdowns. Poor Christian. He just looked at me and said, "Mama, why you so sad?" I think exhaustion was catching up to me, PMS was hitting hard, and the combo of it all wasn't a good mix.

So I texted my sister, who is my go-to gal, and asked what she was up to that weekend. Long story short, she talked me into going up for the weekend... and Martin happily obliged hearing how "distraught" I was over the phone. He's a good man, people, he's a GOOD MAN.

So Friday night, as already planned, he and I headed up to Portland, attended the Temple, where Carly met us afterwards to pick me up. (parked in the Temple President's spot of all places!!! LOL) And there began the BEST weekend I've had in a VERY VERY VERY long time. I think we laughed more than anything else. My sister truly is the best medicine.

Carly is on a regular routine of taking Ambien to help her sleep at night. Fine and dandy. She takes it, konks out and wakes up in the morning no problem. So when she offered me an Ambien Friday night, I thought nothing of it. I only took 1/2 just to be safe. Saturday night, took a whole one, Sunday night took another one.

It made me do weird things. Things I can't REMEMBER doing!!!!

Monday afternoon, as I'm walking through Downtown Portland ready to meet my mom for lunch, Carly calls and is cracking up.

"Do you know what you did last night??" she asks.

I immediately start laughing. Oh dear Golly, WHAT?

"You tried to kill me!! I was sound asleep and you jumped on top of me and started choking me!!!"

Tears are streaming down my face, I'm laughing so hard. I can hardly breathe as she goes on and on with all this crazy stuff I did. Oh my heck!

So without further adieu, here I am in all my glory. For all the world to see.

Apparently, after I attempted to choke my poor sister to death, I left the room and texted her this SCARY picture!! WHAT???????? I have absolutely positively NO recollection of taking it!!!

Photobucket

Are you scared??? I am.

And then this video.
Oh my word, people. Turn up your speakers and have a good laugh.
This right here is why I'll never ever ever EVER touch Ambien again.

(There is nothing to see in the video as it was dark in her room. Just listen...)

Carly: Whatcha doin?
((squeal)))
Donkey.

Rachel: Charleee.

Carly: Where's the balloon?

Rachel: The balloon?

Carly: Yeah, the pineapple balloon. (apparently I'd been rambling about a pineapple balloon)

Rachel: Well, it was like this factory and they were holding me up.

Carly: Did they let you go?

Rachel: Mmm.... It's just, I wish I could see inside their...... their......

Carly: Warehouse?

Rachel: Mmm hmmm..... Assembly line.

Carly: Did they smell like pineapple?

Rachel: No. I just knew it was pineapple. Pineapple balloon.

Carly: Like they looked like a pineapple?

Rachel: No, I could just tell.

Carly: Do you like pineapple?

Rachel: Mmm hmm.

Carly: And you, when you were sitting on the toilet it felt like you were in an ocean?

Rachel: Sitting on the toilet??? WHAT?

Carly: When you were sitting on the toilet a minute ago you said it felt like the door was waving.

Rachel: Oh yeah. Like there was somebody in there. Like it was alive. The door was alive. And the shower curtain might have been alive but he would hold still when I would look at him. So I got outta there.

Carly: Was it scary in there?

Rachel: Hmm Mmm

Carly: Was it kinda cool?

Rachel: Hmm... uncomfortable.

Carly: Uncomfortable?

Rachel: Mmm Hmmm.
What are you doing?

Carly: Nothin.

Rachel: Your video?

Carly: No, that's not video you can't see anything in here on video. (LIAR!)
Ok Donkey, it's time to go night night.

Rachel: Mmm hmm.

Carly: K go out and turn the lights off.

Rachel: But I just poured a pop.

Carly: Ok, go drink it and watch one show of 24.

Rachel: Is that your nose? Hmm... never mind. It's your BOOB??????

Carly: My face is up here. (((laughing)))
That's a fluffy booby.

Rachel: What's that? (we figured out i was pointing to her pillow)

Carly: It's my dolphin.

Rachel: This thing is trying to talk. (referring to her phone) It's like sending out and through the whole - it's sending out.... lines. I just want to pull on em. I can see em and they're not letting me pull on em right here. It's like lines right here. Can you see the LINES? Can you see the lines right there? I'm not kidding, do you see em??

And this concludes my post.

My To-Do List

Recently I have become addicted to how-to blogs - how to refinish a piece of furniture, how to buy at Goodwill and turn your item into something FAB, how to recreate Pottery Barn style furniture, how to do this, how to do that. I mean really, I think I'm obsessed with these blogs. I've been saving ideas into a folder in my email and I'm going to share a few with you that I really really really want to do one of these days. I'm in the process (well, pretty much done, but waiting for a clean bedroom so I can move the desk in for them) of refinishing a desk & hutch I grabbed off of Craigslist last week for the girls. I had a ton of fun doing it. I find I'm soooo happy when I'm being productive and creative at the same time. Pictures to come of this project once I'm able to put the desk to use in their room.

Here's the before pic straight off the ad on Craigslist:

Photobucket

And here are some of my future projects I am drooling over and dreaming of *how* to do them!!

  • I want to add crown moulding to my kitchen cabinets and paint them black. (I never said these were small projects LOL) Here's the link: { Click here } and here's a pic of the Before & After in their kitchen. I also like the look of distressed black as seen here:
Photobucket
  • We have outgrown (and totally abused) our current dining table and chairs. It supposedly seats 6, but if you're one of the 2 on the sides, you pretty much have to climb into your chair. They barely fit. Ugh. So we're in the market for a *new to us* table & chairs. Our dear in laws, it turns out, are getting a new dining set and hutch and we may be buying theirs from them!! I love theirs! We're still debating as it's quite large and we just don't have a ton of room. We'll see. Whatever we decide, though, this is my plan: PAINT PAINT PAINT!!! I'm most likely leaning towards black, but I do love the creamy yummy of this look: { Click here }

Photobucket

  • I love old windows and I love this idea. I found the perfect window on Craigslist, but they want $25 for it. I'm too cheap. I want a steal! I'll keep my eyes open... { Click here }

Photobucket

  • Along these same lines, I love this idea. Although I don't understand why she purchased the frame *new* when there are SO many great ones at Goodwill?? { Click here }

Photobucket

  • And then there's this fabulous idea! I don't know exactly where I'd hang it... but I sure do love it. { Click here }

Photobucket

  • I'm not big into beading, but with this project, I just may want to start: { Click here } How beautiful (and EASY) are those?! I think this would be a fun project for the young women, too.

Photobucket

  • Last but not least, this is the one I'll probably try and tackle next. It tickles me to read her blog where she says she'd rather have used cafe clips but it would've added a good $30 to her project... and to think, I found TWENTY TWO clip rings at Goodwill the other day (3 different packages/two different aisles) for $.99 a package!!!!! I about peed my pants!!!! Wait til you see this idea. It's the greatest yet, in my happy opinion! { Click here }

So... this should keep me busy for awhile, no?

Family Tubing Day

Photobucket
Two days before Christmas, the whole { H } clan - local at least - headed up to the snow to do some tubing on the Autobahn. HOLY FUN!
I was a bit worried about my tailbone (Dec.3 I took a good spill and it's still sore) but once we got up there and I saw there was no impact on your rear end, I decided to go for it. AND GLAD I DID! What a blast!
The day couldn't have been any better. The sun was bright. The snow was compacted just right to slide fast! And my kiddos stayed warm. What more could we ask for?

Up, Up, and Away!

This year for Halloween, Martin went all out (again) and dressed himself and Christian up as characters from Disney's movie "UP", Carl and Russell. What a great movie! I think I cried over half the movie making it one of my top Disney movies to date.

Photobucket
How cute are my boys?? I couldn't look at Martin without giggling, though.

Crazy Lady

If you see a crazy lady running down the street barefoot at 11:40 pm chasing after the newspaper delivery guy to chastise him for throwing the paper so hard against the front door scaring the living bajeebers out of her and causing her to scream ... again, at 11:40 PM... that crazy lady just might be me you see.

(at least i was still dressed)

The Best Medicine

Photobucket

Is there anything better than the love and spirit felt at Girls Camp??

NOPE!

Being with these young women for a week up at camp was seriously the best medicine for my broken heart after losing my grandma. I feel like I've been buoyed up by their zest for life. I miss these girls so much and LOVE them more than they'll ever know.

I had the opportunity to work with Nicki and my Tori Ford as unit leaders over the 4th year girls. (approximate age of 15) We were FOR SURE the most fun unit. ;)

Some of my favorite things about my week with them:

  • staying up all night Thursday night sneaking around camp
  • heart attacking the motorhome, the YCL's, and the cooks
  • war paint
  • kissy lips
  • losing my cell phone in the middle of the field in the middle of the night only to find it by having one of the girls call it and watching for it to light up!! (remember, cell phones are NOT permitted at camp, lol!!)
  • watching my Olivia grow and have FUN
  • scaring the living daylights out of Christine and Ariel!!!
  • Christine and Ariel's unit's jingle about me peeing my pants after scaring them! LOL
  • introducing Tina to fa-JI-tas
  • being referred to as "Mom" all week by my 4th years... so sweet.
  • the wonderfully amazing spirit at Camp Alpine
  • watching new friendships grow and blossom - and old friendships strengthen
  • FEELING LIKE I WAS 15 AGAIN!!
